Legal status
Controlled as a class. Synthetic cannabinoids are caught by a generic definition scheduled under the Misuse of Drugs Act (Misuse of Drugs Regulations, extended by SI orders since 2011), and the blanket Criminal Justice (Psychoactive Substances) Act 2010 independently criminalises the sale/supply of any psychoactive synthetic cannabinoid not otherwise scheduled.
Consequences if caught
Illegal; possession and supply carry Misuse of Drugs Act penalties, with the CJ(PS) Act 2010 covering unscheduled psychoactives. No death penalty.
If prescribed or medical
These synthetic cannabinoids have no recognised medical use and no lawful prescription route in Ireland.
