Is Oxycodone legal in Iraq?
- Legal status
- Oxycodone is a controlled narcotic under the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017 — a strong opioid; importing/exporting/producing narcotics with intent to trade is death-eligible (Art. 27/First), so aggravated oxycodone trafficking is within the capital tier.
- Consequences if caught
- Unauthorised possession is prosecuted; Art. 27/First imposes death or life for trafficking narcotics with intent to trade — oxycodone as a narcotic-table strong opioid is within that capital tier (140 drug death sentences Jan–Aug 2024).
- If prescribed or medical
- Dispensed as a controlled narcotic on prescription.
- Documentation
- Carry a prescription and full documentation; prior Ministry of Health approval is required to import controlled medicines.
