Is Synthetic Cannabinoids (K2 / Spice) legal in Germany?
- Legal status
- Controlled as a class. Synthetic cannabinoids are captured group-wise by the Neue-psychoaktive-Stoffe-Gesetz (NpSG), Germany's generic new-psychoactive-substances law in force 26 November 2016, whose Anlage defines the synthetic-cannabinoid substance group by chemical scaffold (updated repeatedly, e.g. the 2022 amendment); the best-established individual compounds (JWH-018 etc.) are also listed by name in the Betaubungsmittelgesetz (BtMG).
- Consequences if caught
- Illegal to produce, trade or handle for human consumption; the NpSG and BtMG carry imprisonment penalties for supply and trafficking. No death penalty.
- If prescribed or medical
- These synthetic cannabinoids have no recognised medical use and no lawful prescription route in Germany.
- Documentation
- No lawful personal-import route for NpSG/BtMG-controlled synthetic cannabinoids; do not carry.
