Is Oxycodone legal in Iran?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified July 13, 2026
Legal status
Oxycodone is a controlled narcotic under Iran's narcotics regime — a semi-synthetic strong opioid; as a chemical derivative of morphine it is arguably within the Anti-Narcotics Law Art. 8 capital scope ('heroin, morphine, cocaine and their chemical derivatives,' death-eligible above 2 kg post-2017), but oxycodone's specific enumeration is left to confirmation.
Consequences if caught
Illicit supply is prosecuted under the narcotics regime; Art. 8 makes heroin/morphine and their chemical derivatives death-eligible above 2 kg (Iran is the world's leading drug executioner). Whether oxycodone is specifically enumerated within Art. 8 is left to confirmation.
If prescribed or medical
Dispensed as a controlled narcotic on Ministry of Health authorisation.
Documentation
Carry a prescription and original packaging and obtain any required import authorisation; strong-opioid import is strongly discouraged.
