Is Buprenorphine legal in Syria?
- Legal status
- Buprenorphine is a controlled narcotic under Syria's Narcotics Law No. 2 of 1993 — a lighter tier than methadone; capital exposure (Art. 39) attaches only to trafficking/manufacture, not to prescribed or personal medical use.
- Consequences if caught
- Art. 39 imposes death for drug trafficking/manufacture on paper, but that reaches aggravated trafficking — prescribed/personal buprenorphine is non-capital (post-2024 transitional enforcement is opaque).
- If prescribed or medical
- Dispensed as a controlled prescription medicine on Health Ministry authorisation.
- Documentation
- Health Ministry import authorisation is nominally required; carry full documentation.
