Is Buprenorphine legal in Portugal?

- Buprenorphine is a controlled narcotic in Tabela I of Decreto-Lei 15/93 but in a lighter access tier than methadone — it can be initiated by any doctor; personal use is decriminalised (Lei 30/2000).
- Consequences if caught
- Personal use is decriminalised (referred to a Dissuasion Commission); trafficking carries multi-year prison terms.
- If prescribed or medical
- A core opioid-substitution medicine with pharmacy provision since 2004; take-home permitted.
- Documentation
- Carry the Schengen Article 75 certificate (INFARMED) and prescription.
