Is Buprenorphine legal in Spain?
- Legal status
- Buprenorphine is a controlled narcotic under Ley 17/1967 (estupefacientes list) but in a lighter access tier than methadone; buprenorphine-naloxone is office-prescribable.
- Consequences if caught
- Personal possession or use is an administrative offence (LO 4/2015 fine); trafficking is criminal (Código Penal art. 368).
- If prescribed or medical
- Prescribed for opioid-substitution treatment via accredited centres and, increasingly, primary care; take-home doses permitted.
- Documentation
- Carry the Schengen Article 75 certificate (AEMPS-issued) and the prescription.
