Buprenorphine is a controlled narcotic under the Narcotics Act (BetmG, SR 812.121) in a lighter tier than methadone; it has been used for opioid-agonist treatment since the early 2000s.
Consequences if caught
Unauthorised possession or consumption draws a fine for personal use; trafficking draws imprisonment.
If prescribed or medical
Prescribed for opioid-agonist treatment by office-based physicians and centres, with take-home standard (heroin-assisted treatment also exists for severe cases).
