Is Pregabalin legal in Sweden?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified July 14, 2026
Legal status
Pregabalin is narcotic-classified (narkotikaklassad) in Sweden — placed in förteckning V of the Medical Products Agency's lists effective 24 July 2018 in response to a growing black market — whereas gabapentin remains an ordinary non-narcotic prescription medicine, a clear divergence between the two gabapentinoids.
Consequences if caught
A minor (ringa) narcotics offence draws a fine or up to 6 months; an ordinary narcotics offence up to 3 years.
If prescribed or medical
Prescribed as a förteckning V narcotic medicine, dispensed on a special prescription form with the additional controls that classification entails.
Documentation
Given the narcotic classification, carry a Schengen certificate and the original prescription and import only with proof of medical need.
