Is Methylphenidate legal in Germany?

Methylphenidate is a named narcotic in the prescribable tier of the German schedules. The dossier records the Anlage III row of the Betäubungsmittelgesetz as „Methylphenidat | - | Methyl[(RS;RS)(phenyl)(2-piperidyl)acetat]“. The third column carries an unusual double stereochemical marker, covering both centres in the molecule, so the entry is written at the threo racemate rather than at a single isomer, and the single-isomer preparation dispensed in some markets is the same listed substance narrowed rather than a different one. Placement is under BtMG § 1 Abs. 1 and the tier is Anlage III, the marketable and prescribable one, which is what allows a widely used treatment medicine to be dispensed inside the narcotics regime.

Consequences if caught

Capital exposure: none. The dossier's penalty column records that no death-penalty regime applies in Germany.
