Is Mephedrone (4-MMC) legal in Germany?

- Controlled — NAMED. Mephedrone is individually placed in BtMG Anlage I (non-marketable narcotic) by the 24th BtMÄndV, effective 22 Jan 2010 — one of the earliest EU listings, pre-dating the 2010 EU Council Decision. Germany later added a generic cathinone frame (NpSG 2016), but mephedrone itself sits by name in Anlage I.
- Consequences if caught
- Anlage I: §29 BtMG unauthorised possession up to 5 years; trafficking/large-quantity offences carry higher terms. No death penalty in Germany.
- If prescribed or medical
- Anlage I (nicht verkehrsfähig) — no recognised medical use and no lawful prescription route.
- Documentation
- No lawful personal-import route for an Anlage I narcotic; no medical carry exemption exists.
