Is Ephedrine legal in Portugal?

- Regulated as a chemical PRECURSOR (1988 UN Convention Table I — a methamphetamine precursor), NOT as a scheduled narcotic; listed as a precursor in Tabela V of Decreto-Lei 15/93 plus an EU Category 1 scheduled substance. Not scheduled as a controlled narcotic (Tabelas I–IV). Also a pharmacy/prescription medicine.
- Consequences if caught
- Precursor-diversion (handling knowing it serves illicit manufacture) is punishable under DL 15/93 art. 22 (~2–10 years), distinct from Portugal's decriminalised personal-use regime.
- If prescribed or medical
- Also a pharmacy/prescription decongestant-bronchodilator medicine subject to sales limits; carry documentation for a personal supply.
- Documentation
- For Schengen travel carry a Schengen certificate for controlled medicines plus the original packaging and prescription. Carrying a prescribed medicine within the 10-day personal threshold with a valid prescription is lawful.
