Is Ephedrine legal in Singapore?

Legal status

Not a controlled drug. Ephedrine is not in any Part of the First Schedule. It is a controlled substance under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, Third Schedule, Part 1, which names "Ephedrine also known as β-Hydroxy-N-methylamphetamine" in its list of "Controlled equipment, materials or substances useful for manufacturing controlled drugs". Norephedrine and Norpseudoephedrine are named in the same list.

Consequences if caught

Second Schedule reach: none. The Second Schedule carries 20 rows imposing "Death" and they name exactly eight terms: opium, morphine, diamorphine, cocaine, cannabis, cannabis mixture, cannabis resin and methamphetamine. Ephedrine is none of those eight and it is not a controlled drug at all, so no capital band can reach it. The Third Schedule regime is the section 10A offence of manufacture, supply, possession, import or export of equipment, materials or substances useful for the manufacture of controlled drugs, which is not in the Second Schedule's capital rows.

If prescribed or medical

Do not rely on a foreign prescription without checking with the Health Sciences Authority before travelling.
