Is Ephedrine legal in Malaysia?

- Regulated as a chemical PRECURSOR (1988 UN Convention Table I — a methamphetamine precursor), NOT as a scheduled narcotic; a Group A poison under the Poisons Act 1952 + Customs (Prohibition of Imports) Order; NOT in the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 First Schedule.
- Consequences if caught
- No capital exposure — the precursor sits outside the DDA; the s.39B death penalty attaches to First-Schedule dangerous drugs, not precursors. Poisons Act penalties (fines/imprisonment).
- If prescribed or medical
- Also a pharmacy/prescription decongestant-bronchodilator medicine subject to sales limits; carry documentation for a personal supply.
- Documentation
- Under s.25, a reasonable personal quantity of a medicinal preparation prescribed by a doctor outside Malaysia is exempt only if declared to a customs officer on arrival; carry the prescription and original packaging.
