Legal status
Tramadol is a Schedule 4 (Class IV) controlled drug under the Controlled Drugs Act (reclassified Schedule 3 to 4 on 16 February 2007); Taiwan retains the death penalty for the most serious Category-1 narcotics offences, but Schedule 4 substances such as tramadol are not in any capital tier.
Consequences if caught
Category 4 offences draw fixed-term imprisonment and fines; small-quantity possession is handled administratively, and tramadol is not death-eligible.
If prescribed or medical
Dispensed as a Schedule 4 controlled prescription medicine.
Documentation
Carry a prescription and original packaging for personal use; import beyond personal need requires authorisation.
