Is Hydrocodone legal in Taiwan?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified July 13, 2026
Legal status
Hydrocodone is a controlled narcotic in a lower category under the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act; it is not marketed in Taiwan and is NOT in capital Category 1 (which names heroin, morphine, opium and cocaine), so its drug-specific capital tier is left to confirmation.
Consequences if caught
Category 1 offences under Art. 4(1) are death- or life-eligible, but hydrocodone sits in a lower category outside that capital reach; lower-category offences draw fixed-term imprisonment.
If prescribed or medical
No marketed Taiwanese hydrocodone product; a controlled narcotic is dispensed only under controlled-drug authority (an import/export licence is required).
Documentation
Carry a prescription and original packaging; a licence is needed to import or export.
