Legality · Synthetic Cannabinoids (K2 / Spice)

Is Synthetic Cannabinoids (K2 / Spice) legal in Taiwan?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified July 14, 2026
Legal status
Controlled. Taiwan schedules synthetic cannabinoids as controlled drugs / narcotics (Category 2/3) under the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act and Controlled Drugs Act, listing new synthetic cannabinoids by name (Taiwan was an early adopter of temporary scheduling for NPS). They are below the capital tier: capital under the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act art. 4 applies only to Category 1 (heroin, morphine, opium, cocaine), so synthetic cannabinoids are not death-eligible.
Consequences if caught
Illegal; possession and trafficking carry imprisonment, but synthetic cannabinoids as Category 2/3 drugs are not death-eligible.
If prescribed or medical
These synthetic cannabinoids have no recognised medical use and no lawful prescription route in Taiwan.
Documentation
No lawful personal-import route for controlled synthetic cannabinoids; do not carry.
