Is CBD legal in Taiwan?
- Legal status
- CBD (cannabidiol) is prescription-only: low-THC CBD (below 0.001% THC) is permitted only as a medicine under the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act, and any CBD with 0.001% THC or more is a Category 2 narcotic under the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act.
- Consequences if caught
- Importing CBD without TFDA approval is referred to judicial authorities, and a product at or above 0.001% THC is prosecuted as a Category 2 narcotic.
- If prescribed or medical
- Access is a narrow legal route — a doctor's prescription plus an individual TFDA import permit; there is no domestic supply. Distinct from cannabis, a Category 2 narcotic.
- Documentation
- CBD requires a doctor's prescription plus an individual TFDA import permit; without the permit, importing CBD is referred to judicial authorities.
