Is CBD legal in Thailand?
- Legal status
- CBD (cannabidiol) is legal as a non-narcotic only if the extract contains 0.2% THC or less by weight and is from domestically grown cannabis/hemp; extracts over 0.2% THC remain a Category 5 narcotic and the import of extracts is prohibited.
- Consequences if caught
- A CBD product testing over 0.2% THC, or any imported CBD extract/oil, is a Category 5 narcotic subject to seizure, fines and imprisonment, while compliant domestic sub-0.2% products are freely possessed.
- If prescribed or medical
- Cannabis flower was restricted to prescription-only (PT-33 form, maximum 30 days) by the June 2025 MoPH Controlled Herb notification, which did not re-criminalise compliant sub-0.2%-THC CBD extract.
- Documentation
- Domestic sub-0.2%-THC CBD is freely held; imported CBD extract is prohibited and paperwork does not legalise it, and cannabis flower needs a PT-33 prescription.
