Is Synthetic Cannabinoids (K2 / Spice) legal in India?

- Controlled by named listing. India has no general analogue/generic clause, so synthetic cannabinoids are controlled as they are individually notified into the NDPS list of psychotropic substances (following the compounds added to Schedule II of the 1971 Convention); un-notified new analogues can fall outside control until listed. Distinct from cannabis, which is NDPS 'cannabis' except for bhang.
- Consequences if caught
- Illegal for the listed synthetic cannabinoids; possession and trafficking carry NDPS imprisonment penalties (quantity-tiered). Death penalty only for repeat large-quantity trafficking, not applied to this class in practice.
- If prescribed or medical
- These synthetic cannabinoids have no recognised medical use and no lawful prescription route in India.
- Documentation
- No lawful personal-import route for NDPS-listed synthetic cannabinoids; do not carry.
