Is MXE legal in Spain?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified July 14, 2026
Legal status
MXE (methoxetamine) is controlled throughout the EU, and thus in Spain, under Council Implementing Decision (EU) 2015/1875 (8 October 2015), which required member states to subject MXE to control measures and criminal penalties; Spain incorporates it into its psychotropic-substances control framework.
Consequences if caught
Trafficking and supply of a controlled substance such as MXE are criminal offences carrying imprisonment; personal possession in public is primarily an administrative sanction under the Ley de Seguridad Ciudadana, as with other controlled drugs.
If prescribed or medical
MXE has no authorised medicinal use in Spain and is not prescribable; it is a substance of abuse with no clinical indication.
Documentation
No legal supply channel exists; MXE purchased online is an illicit import liable to seizure by customs.
