Is MXE legal in France?
- Legal status
- MXE (methoxetamine) is subject to control measures and criminal penalties across the EU, and therefore in France, under Council Implementing Decision (EU) 2015/1875 (8 October 2015), which obliged member states to place MXE under their national narcotics regimes; in France this means treatment as a stupéfiant with no authorised medical use.
- Consequences if caught
- As a controlled narcotic, MXE possession and trafficking are prosecuted under the Code pénal / Code de la santé publique narcotics offences, with imprisonment and fines scaling with quantity and supply.
- If prescribed or medical
- MXE is not an authorised medicine and cannot be prescribed in France; unlike ketamine it has no clinical role, so there is no lawful prescription pathway.
- Documentation
- There is no legitimate retail or pharmacy supply; MXE ordered online is an illicit import subject to customs interdiction.
