Is Morphine legal in Iran?
- Legal status
- Morphine is expressly enumerated in Article 8 of Iran's Anti-Narcotics Law as a processed narcotic and is death-eligible: trafficking, manufacture or possession above 2 kg of morphine (or its chemical derivatives) carries the death penalty; smaller quantities draw graduated imprisonment, fines and flogging.
- Consequences if caught
- Unauthorised supply draws imprisonment, fines and flogging; trafficking or possessing more than 2 kg of morphine is death-eligible under Article 8 (Iran leads the world in drug executions).
- If prescribed or medical
- Available only through Ministry of Health-authorised channels as a controlled narcotic for hospital and palliative use.
- Documentation
- Import of controlled opioids is restricted and requires Health Ministry authorisation; carrying strong-opioid narcotics is strongly discouraged.
