- Controlled under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973 — methylone, as a synthetic cathinone, was brought under Class A (First Schedule) via the CNB NPS pipeline (reclassification of NPS from the Fifth to the First Schedule from 1 May 2019); NAMED-batch as an NPS, specific listing instrument left to confirmation. Serious control but BELOW the capital tier.
- Consequences if caught
- Zero tolerance; long imprisonment and caning for Class A trafficking. Not death-eligible: methylone is not on the drug-specific mandatory-death quantity list (Second Schedule — diamorphine 15 g, methamphetamine 250 g, etc.).

- No recognised medical use; no lawful prescription route.

- No lawful personal import; treat as zero tolerance.
