Is Memantine legal in Switzerland?

- Memantine is an authorised prescription medicine (Abgabekategorie B), not a controlled drug: Ebixa was Swissmedic-approved (2003) under the Heilmittelgesetz and memantine is not listed in the Betaubungsmittelverzeichnis of the Narcotics Act.
- Consequences if caught
- Memantine carries no narcotics-law penalty; supply outside the prescription channel breaches therapeutic-products law rather than the Narcotics Act.
- If prescribed or medical
- Prescribed for moderate-to-severe Alzheimer's disease.
- Documentation
- Ebixa and memantine generics are listed with Fachinformation in the Swissmedic AIPS product-information database; carried lawfully with a prescription.
