Legal status
Controlled substance under Decreto-Lei n.º 15/93 (narcotics/psychotropics regime); the exact table placement is left to confirmation against the current statute. Personal-use possession is decriminalised as an administrative offence under Lei 30/2000.
Consequences if caught
Trafficking and supply are criminal under DL 15/93; personal-use possession is handled as an administrative matter (decriminalised since 2001).
If prescribed or medical
Available as a prescription anaesthetic administered by licensed physicians.
Documentation
For Schengen travel carry a Schengen certificate for controlled medicines plus the original packaging and prescription. Carrying a prescribed medicine within the 10-day personal threshold with a valid prescription is lawful.
