Is Ephedrine legal in Switzerland?

- Regulated as a chemical PRECURSOR (1988 UN Convention Table I — a methamphetamine precursor), NOT as a scheduled narcotic; listed as a Vorläuferstoff under the Narcotics Act (BetmG) + BetmVV-EDI (preparations in Table F with per-unit limits; Swissmedic administers). Not a controlled narcotic itself.
- Consequences if caught
- Handling/import/export outside the Table F limits or without Swissmedic authorisation is a precursor-control offence, distinct from BetmG narcotics-trafficking penalties.
- If prescribed or medical
- Also a pharmacy/prescription decongestant-bronchodilator medicine subject to sales limits; carry documentation for a personal supply.
- Documentation
- Schengen travel: carry prescribed narcotics with a Schengen Article 75 certificate and keep them in original packaging. Medical cannabis has been prescribable by doctors WITHOUT a special FOPH permit since August 2022.
