Is Ephedrine legal in Thailand?
- Legal status
- Controlled under the Narcotics Code (Narcotics Act B.E. 2564): ephedrine is tightly controlled (psychotropic/precursor list), with import/manufacture/dispensing restricted to licensed/hospital channels — the driver is meth-precursor diversion.
- Consequences if caught
- Unauthorised production/import/export/possession/sale carries imprisonment + fines; large-quantity precursor diversion for meth manufacture is prosecuted severely.
- If prescribed or medical
- Also a pharmacy/prescription decongestant-bronchodilator medicine subject to sales limits; carry documentation for a personal supply.
- Documentation
- Prescription or medical certificate; for narcotic Category 2 and for psychotropic supplies of 31–90 days a Thai FDA permit (Form IC-2) applied for online at least 15 days before travel; carry original packaging and declare via the Customs Red Channel.
