Is Diazepam legal in Qatar?
- Legal status
- Controlled psychotropic under Law 9/1987 (amended 16/2023), Table 2 (controlled psychotropic medicines); diazepam is among the benzodiazepines named as prohibited to carry without prior clearance. Capital exposure attaches to aggravated/recidivist trafficking under Art. 34, which reaches narcotic drugs and dangerous psychotropic substances (Tables 1 and 2) alike; the diazepam-specific capital application is left to confirmation.
- Consequences if caught
- Unauthorised possession/use: imprisonment (roughly 6 months–3 years) plus fine and deportation for non-nationals; trafficking is 10–20 years, escalating to death or life for recidivist/aggravated offences under Art. 34.
- If prescribed or medical
- Prescribable controlled psychotropic; import requires prior MOPH PDC approval with an attested medical report (within 6 months); psychotropic (Table 2) supply capped at 60 days (two months).
