Is Crack Cocaine legal in Indonesia?
- Legal status
- Crack is the freebase (base) form of cocaine and has no separate legal identity in Indonesia: it is controlled AS cocaine, a Group I (Golongan I) narcotic with no therapeutic use under Law No. 35 of 2009, whose schedule covers cocaine, its salts and preparations and thus reaches the base/freebase form. The law's capital trafficking provisions apply by weight of the Group I narcotic and carry over to crack, making organised/large-scale trafficking capital-eligible whether powder or base.
- Consequences if caught
- Possession, dealing and trafficking of crack (as cocaine) are criminal under Law 35/2009 (Arts 111-127); large-scale trafficking is capital-eligible, lesser offences draw long imprisonment.
- If prescribed or medical
- As a Group I narcotic cocaine has no permitted medical use in Indonesia; the crack/freebase base has no medicinal preparation and cannot be prescribed.
- Documentation
- No prescription documentation exists for crack/freebase cocaine.
