Is Crack Cocaine legal in Aceh (Indonesia)?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified July 14, 2026
Legal status
Crack is the freebase (base) form of cocaine and has no separate legal identity in Aceh: it is controlled AS cocaine, a Category I narcotic under Indonesia's national Narcotics Law No. 35 of 2009 (which applies in Aceh), whose schedule covers cocaine, its salts and preparations and thus reaches the base/freebase form. The national law's capital trafficking provisions apply by weight and carry over to crack, so organised or large-scale trafficking is capital-eligible whether powder or base.
Consequences if caught
Possession and trafficking of crack (as cocaine) are prosecuted under national Law 35/2009 (Arts 111-127); large-scale trafficking is capital-eligible, alongside Aceh's separate syariah regime for other conduct.
If prescribed or medical
As a Category I narcotic cocaine has no permitted medical use; the crack/freebase base has no medicinal preparation and cannot be prescribed.
Documentation
No prescription documentation exists for crack/freebase cocaine.
