Is Codeine legal in Qatar?

- Codeine is a controlled narcotic under Law No. 9 of 1987 (Narcotic Drugs and Dangerous Psychotropic Substances); low-dose codeine sits below the trafficking tier in practice. Qatari law permits death for drug trafficking on paper, but that capital exposure is reserved for aggravated trafficking, not therapeutic codeine.

- Aggravated trafficking is death-eligible on paper (most sentences commuted to life); unauthorised possession of codeine draws imprisonment, while prescribed use is lawful.

- Dispensed as a controlled prescription medicine.
- Documentation
- MOPH prior import authorisation is required for controlled/narcotic medicines - carry a prescription, doctor's letter and original packaging (maximum about a 3-month supply).
