Is Cathinone legal in Turkey?

Legal status

Cathinone is a controlled substance in Turkey and the dossier carries it under the schedule name cathinone, a VERIFIED placement in the classification decisions made under article 19 of Law No. 2313 on the Control of Narcotic Substances. One distinction on this row needs stating rather than assuming. Article 188(4)(a) of Penal Code No. 5237 raises the sentence where the material is «sentetik katinon ve türevleri», synthetic cathinone and its derivatives, a limb inserted by Law No. 7445 of 28 March 2023 and aimed at the designer cathinones. Cathinone itself is the natural alkaloid of Catha edulis, so the word sentetik in that limb is doing work, and this row should not inherit the uplift merely because the word katinon appears in it. Article 191(1) sets two to five years for buying, accepting or possessing for use and for use itself, with the five year deferral and supervision regime of 191(2) and 191(3).

There is no prescription route for cathinone in Turkey. It has no marketed medicinal preparation, the dossier recorded no prescription instrument for this row, and no per-substance medical route is asserted here. Article 188(6) of the Penal Code extends the trafficking paragraphs to any substance whose production is permission bound or whose sale is prescription bound and which produces a narcotic or stimulant effect, but a substance already carried by name in the classification decisions is reached without it.
