Is Tramadol legal in Singapore?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified July 13, 2026
Legal status
Tramadol is a Prescription-Only Medicine (POM) under Singapore's Health Products Act / Poisons framework (HSA) and is NOT a controlled drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act — it is not in the MDA First or Second Schedule, so no capital trafficking tier attaches to tramadol.
Consequences if caught
Unauthorised supply or possession of a prescription-only medicine draws a fine and/or imprisonment under the medicines/poisons regime; tramadol is not death-eligible.
If prescribed or medical
Dispensed as a Prescription-Only Medicine.
Documentation
Carry it in original packaging with a valid prescription or doctor's letter for personal use only, and declare it on the HSA personal-medication check.
