Legal status
Methadone is a Class A controlled drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, but it is NOT listed in the capital Second Schedule (which names morphine, diamorphine and opium) — a controlled strong opioid, not death-eligible; confirmed.
Consequences if caught
Unauthorised possession or consumption of a Class A drug carries imprisonment and caning; trafficking is severe, but methadone is not among the death-eligible Second-Schedule drugs.
If prescribed or medical
Prescribed as a Class A controlled drug for supervised methadone-maintenance OST.
Documentation
Carry a prescription and keep the medicine in original packaging; declare controlled medicines on entry (HSA).
