Is Methadone legal in Brunei?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified July 13, 2026
Legal status
Methadone is a Class A controlled drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act (Cap. 27), but it is absent by name from the capital Second Schedule (which names heroin/morphine/opium above weight) — a controlled strong opioid whose drug-specific capital tier is left to confirmation.
Consequences if caught
Controlled-drug possession or supply draws imprisonment, a fine and possible caning; the capital Second Schedule does not name methadone.
If prescribed or medical
Handled as a Class A controlled prescription medicine (OST availability limited).
Documentation
Carry a prescription and original packaging; declare controlled medicines and confirm import rules with Brunei authorities.
