Is Methylphenidate legal in Malaysia?
- Legal status
- Controlled psychotropic under the Poisons Act 1952 (Psychotropic Substances Regulations) — NOT a 'dangerous drug' under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 (so the amphetamine s.37(da) trafficking presumption does NOT apply).
- Consequences if caught
- Poisons Act penalties (fines/imprisonment). Because methylphenidate is outside the DDA First Schedule, the s.39B death penalty does NOT apply — no capital exposure.
- If prescribed or medical
- Prescription ADHD/narcolepsy medicine (e.g. Ritalin/Concerta) via controlled channels; carry the original prescription and any required import permit.
