Is Memantine legal in Poland?

- Memantine is a registered prescription medicine (lek wydawany z przepisu lekarza), not a controlled substance: it is entered in the URPL Rejestr Produktow Leczniczych under Prawo farmaceutyczne and is absent from the narcotics/psychotropics schedules of the Ustawa o przeciwdzialaniu narkomanii.
- Consequences if caught
- Memantine attracts no anti-drug-abuse-act penalty; unauthorised supply of a prescription medicine is a pharmaceutical-law breach only.
- If prescribed or medical
- Prescribed for moderate-to-severe Alzheimer's dementia.
- Documentation
- Memantine products (e.g. Memabix, Ebixa) are entered in the URPL Register of Medicinal Products; carried lawfully with a prescription.
