Is MDPV legal in Malaysia?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified July 14, 2026
Legal status
Controlled. MDPV is caught as a dangerous drug, cathinones being scheduled under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 First Schedule. Capital exposure is via the general s.39B trafficking offence (mandatory death made discretionary since 2018); the s.37(da) trafficking-presumption quantities are named per-drug with no MDPV-specific quantity, so the MDPV capital threshold is left to confirmation.
Consequences if caught
Illegal; trafficking a dangerous drug is death- or life-eligible under DDA 1952 s.39B (discretionary since 2018). Do not carry.
If prescribed or medical
MDPV has no recognised medical use and no lawful prescription route in Malaysia.
Documentation
No lawful personal-import route for a scheduled dangerous drug; do not carry.
