Is MDA legal in Qatar?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified August 25, 2026
Legal status
Controlled. MDA is a 1971 Convention Schedule I substance. Qatar's statute is Law No. 9 of 1987, which by Article 1 defines its scope as the substances listed in Tables 1 and 2 appended to the law. Those tables are NOT reproduced in the official English text, so MDA's specific table placement is left to confirmation.
Consequences if caught
Under Article 34 of Law No. 9 of 1987 as amended by Law No. 7 of 1998, trafficking, import with intent to traffic and manufacture for trafficking carry ten to twenty years' imprisonment and a fine of QAR 100,000-300,000. CORRECTION: the death penalty is NOT the ordinary trafficking penalty. Article 34 provides that 'Recidivists shall be punished with the death sentence or life imprisonment', and applies the same penalty where the offender was a public official entrusted with combating narcotics. A first-offence trafficking conviction is a custodial sentence, not a capital one.
If prescribed or medical
No lawful prescription route. MDA is a Schedule I substance under the 1971 Convention on Psychotropic Substances - the schedule reserved for substances with no recognised medical use - and no country anywhere furnished INCB an MDA assessment for 2026, while the closely related MDMA and MDPV each appear dozens of times in the same return. There is no licit MDA supply to prescribe from.
Documentation
No lawful personal import. Article 15 permits possession only for personal medical use in quantities prescribed by a Qatar-licensed physician; MDA has no prescribable form.
