Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified August 23, 2026
Legal status
Controlled — MDA is a scheduled psychotropic substance in Romania under Legea 143/2000 privind prevenirea si combaterea traficului si consumului ilicit de droguri, arts. 2, 3 and 4. Romania is a party to the 1971 Convention on Psychotropic Substances, in which MDA is a Schedule I substance, and the national schedules give effect to that listing.
Consequences if caught
Legea 143/2000 separates risk drugs from high-risk drugs. Article 2(2): trafficking acts involving high-risk drugs are punished with 5 to 15 years and prohibition of certain rights. Article 3(2): introducing or removing high-risk drugs from the country without right, 10 to 20 years and prohibition of certain rights.
If prescribed or medical
MDA has no recognised medical use and no lawful prescription route. Licit narcotics circulate under Legea 339/2005; a prohibited street drug has no prescribable form.
Documentation
No prescription documentation exists for this substance. Carry prescribed medicines in original packaging with the prescription; a Schengen art. 75 certificate is required for controlled medicines.
