Is MDA legal in Malaysia?
- Legal status
- Controlled — MDA is a scheduled dangerous drug (First Schedule) under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. NAMED mechanism. CAPITAL: s.39B makes trafficking in any First-Schedule dangerous drug death-eligible (discretionary since the Abolition of Mandatory Death Penalty Act 2023); the s.37(da) presumption weights name only heroin/meth/cocaine/cannabis, but death eligibility does not require a presumption.
- Consequences if caught
- Trafficking = death or life imprisonment plus at least 12 strokes (discretionary since 2023); possession severe.
- If prescribed or medical
- Scheduled dangerous drug with no recognised medical use; no lawful prescription route.
- Documentation
- No lawful personal import; trafficking amounts are death-eligible.
