Kratom is prohibited in Australia — kratom, mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine are all named Schedule 9 (prohibited substance) entries in the Poisons Standard (SUSMP), scheduled since 2005; possession, supply, manufacture and production are illegal.
Consequences if caught
Schedule 9 prohibited-substance offences under state and territory drug laws: possession, supply and import without authority are criminal.
If prescribed or medical
No lawful medical route — Schedule 9 substances are prohibited (permitted only for approved research), not prescribable.
Documentation
No Traveller's Exemption applies — there is no lawful personal-import route for a Schedule 9 substance.
