Is DMT legal in Turkey?

Legal status

DMT is a controlled substance in Turkey and the dossier carries it under the schedule name dmt, a VERIFIED placement in the classification decisions made under article 19 of Law No. 2313 on the Control of Narcotic Substances. The placement is of the isolated alkaloid. It does not settle the plant preparations that contain it, and the dossier is explicit about that boundary on the neighbouring rows: the ayahuasca entry records that the near match DMT was rejected «because the constituent does not settle the preparation», and 5-MeO-DMT and 4-AcO-DMT were each searched and not confirmed as separate entries. Turkish law contains no general analogue clause that would carry a scheduled alkaloid across to its derivatives or to the botanical material, which is why article 19 has been exercised ten times down to Presidential Decision No. 10851 of 9 January 2026 rather than once.

Consequences if caught

Capital exposure: none. The cited instruments give no per-substance numeric quantity threshold; purpose and circumstances are assessed case by case, and the ceiling is 30 years under article 188(1) of Penal Code No. 5237, with aggravating multipliers in article 188(4), (5) and (8). Article 188(3) sets not less than ten years for selling, offering for sale, giving to another, dispatching, transporting, storing, purchasing, accepting and possessing. Article 190(1) is the paragraph most likely to reach a ceremonial setting rather than a market one: five to ten years and a fine of one thousand to ten thousand days for a person who, to facilitate the use of a narcotic or stimulant substance, provides a place, equipment or materials, takes measures to make it harder for users to be caught, or gives others information about methods of use. Article 191(1) sets two to five years for buying, accepting or possessing for use and for use itself, with the five year deferral of 191(2) and at least a year of denetimli serbestlik under 191(3).

If prescribed or medical

There is no prescription route for DMT in Turkey. It has no marketed medicinal preparation, the dossier recorded no prescription instrument for this row, and no per-substance medical route is asserted here. Article 24 of Law No. 2313 punishes a pharmacy that sells a narcotic substance without a physician's prescription under the relevant articles of the Penal Code, and article 188(6) of the Penal Code extends the trafficking paragraphs to permission bound or prescription bound substances producing a narcotic or stimulant effect; neither creates a lawful route for a traveller carrying the alkaloid or a brew containing it.

Documentation

No document makes DMT lawful to carry. A traveller carrying plant material or a liquid preparation should understand that the charge follows the laboratory report rather than the label: article 20 of Law No. 2313 requires a sample sufficient for analysis to be taken from any seized narcotic substance, and a preparation found to contain the scheduled alkaloid is treated as that alkaloid whatever the vessel says. The ayahuasca row in this corpus is a separate, unconfirmed entry and should not be read as permission. The schedule name was read in the dossier on 18 September 2026 and articles 19 and 20 with articles 188, 190 and 191 were read from the consolidated texts on 20 September 2026.
