Is Buprenorphine legal in Jordan?
- Legal status
- Buprenorphine is a controlled narcotic under Jordan's Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Law No. 23 of 2016 and is used in opioid-substitution treatment — a lighter tier than methadone; ordinary opioid offences are non-capital.
- Consequences if caught
- Ordinary opioid trafficking draws up to life imprisonment, NOT death — capital is reserved narrowly for collaborating with international trafficking gangs; prescribed/personal buprenorphine is non-capital.
- If prescribed or medical
- Dispensed as a controlled prescription medicine, used for OST, with prior JFDA approval.
- Documentation
- JFDA prior approval to import narcotic medicines; carry prescription documentation.
