Is Buprenorphine legal in France?

Legal status
Buprenorphine is assimilated to stupéfiants (narcotics) under the Code de la santé publique but sits in a lighter access tier than methadone — high-dose buprenorphine can be initiated by any GP without special notification.
Consequences if caught
Illicit use or possession up to 1 year plus a fine; trafficking or supply up to 10 years.
If prescribed or medical
A first-line opioid-substitution medicine (about half of French OST dispensations), prescribed on a secure prescription with pharmacy dispensing and standard take-home; 28-day maximum prescription.
Documentation
Carry the Schengen Article 75 certificate (ANSM-authenticated) and the prescription.
