5-MeO-DMT is individually controlled in Japan — designated by name (5-メトキシ-N,N-ジメチルトリプタミン) as a Designated Substance (shitei-yakubutsu) under the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Act, effective 28 February 2007.
Consequences if caught
Manufacture, import, sale, possession and use of 5-MeO-DMT as a Designated Substance are prohibited and criminally penalised under the PMD Act.
If prescribed or medical
No medical use; a Designated Substance may be handled only for approved research or testing purposes under authorisation, and is not prescribable.
