Is 5-MeO-DMT (Bufo / Toad) legal in Japan?

- 5-MeO-DMT is individually controlled in Japan — designated by name (5-メトキシ-N,N-ジメチルトリプタミン) as a Designated Substance (shitei-yakubutsu) under the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Act, effective 28 February 2007.
- Consequences if caught
- Manufacture, import, sale, possession and use of 5-MeO-DMT as a Designated Substance are prohibited and criminally penalised under the PMD Act.
- If prescribed or medical
- No medical use; a Designated Substance may be handled only for approved research or testing purposes under authorisation, and is not prescribable.
- Documentation
- Named in the MHLW Designated Substances list (指定薬物名称: 5-メトキシ-N,N-ジメチルトリプタミン); designated 28 February 2007 (平成19年2月28日).
