Is 4-AcO-DMT legal in Germany?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified July 14, 2026
Legal status
4-AcO-DMT (O-acetylpsilocin) is controlled in Germany under the New Psychoactive Substances Act (NpSG). Its Anlage 1 tryptamine substance-group — compounds derived from 2-(1H-indol-3-yl)ethylamin — expressly covers indole ring position-4 acetoxy and hydroxy substitution together with N,N-dialkyl amines, so 4-acetoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine is caught by the group definition rather than named individually (psilocin itself is a separate BtMG Anlage I substance, but its acetate ester is reached through the NpSG group).
Consequences if caught
The NpSG prohibits production, trade, placing on the market, importation and administering to others (up to 3 years, rising to up to 10 years for commercial dealing or endangering health); acquisition and possession purely for one's own use are not themselves punishable under the NpSG.
If prescribed or medical
Not a prescribable medicine; NpSG substances may be handled only for exempted industrial or scientific purposes.
Documentation
NpSG Anlage 1 — tryptamine / Indol-3-alkylamin substance group (position-4 acetoxy, N,N-dialkyl).
