Is Tramadol legal in Bangladesh?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified July 13, 2026
Legal status
Tramadol is a controlled prescription opioid regulated by the DGDA and Department of Narcotics Control under the Narcotics Control Act 2018 (classes A/B/C); its explicit NCA-2018 class is left to confirmation, and it is not established to sit in a capital class, so the tramadol-specific capital tier is left to confirmation.
Consequences if caught
Unprescribed sale or possession is an offence under the 2018 Act; the death penalty is reserved for large quantities of Class A narcotics such as heroin and yaba, which does not clearly reach tramadol.
If prescribed or medical
Dispensed as a controlled prescription opioid (injectable forms restricted to hospital use).
Documentation
Carry a prescription or doctor's letter and personal-treatment quantities; confirm current DGDA/DNC rules before travel.
