Is Buprenorphine legal in Bangladesh?

Confirmed against a primary sourceVerified July 13, 2026
Legal status
Buprenorphine (Tidigesic) is a controlled substance under the Narcotics Control Act 2018 — internationally a 1971 Schedule III opioid, a lighter tier than methadone; its 2018-Act class is not tied to a named capital threshold, so it sits below the capital tier, left to confirmation.
Consequences if caught
Controlled-substance offences draw graduated imprisonment and fines by quantity; the death penalty (s.36) is reserved for Category 'Ka'/A drugs at threshold (heroin/cocaine >25 g), and buprenorphine falls below that capital tier.
If prescribed or medical
Dispensed as a controlled prescription medicine (Tidigesic).
Documentation
Carry a prescription and original packaging; declare controlled medicines.
